Beaches, parks and the lake

The lake is the point. Silverton's shared beach and docks are at the bottom of the property, and the best public waterfront on the north arm is a short walk away.

On the water, summer means wakeboarding and waterskiing in the calm early mornings, paddleboards in the evening, and fishing for kokanee and rainbow trout. The Vernon Yacht Club, a short walk away, has its own marina and membership. Please keep in mind that Okanagan Lake is large and cold outside July and August, and wind can come up fast; a paddleboarder went missing on the lake in September 2026.

Dogs and outdoor time

Silverton's pet bylaw is reported as one cat or one dog up to 60 cm at the shoulder, so the complex suits small and medium dogs. For exercise, Marshall Field on Okanagan Landing Road has an on-leash dog park, and Ellison Provincial Park has a dedicated leashed-dog beach, so your dog can swim without sharing the main beaches. Paddlewheel Park's beach is busy in summer; check the City's current rules on dogs there before you go.

Community

The Okanagan Landing & District Community Association owns Paddlewheel Park and rents out Paddlewheel Hall for events. It is the easiest way to meet neighbours beyond your own strata and to have a voice when development proposals for the Landing come to council, which in 2025 and 2026 they did several times. Silverton itself is small enough that you'll know most of the other owners, which helps when the strata needs volunteers for council.

Dining, shopping and errands

Okanagan Landing is residential. For groceries, restaurants and most shopping, residents drive about 10 minutes into Vernon, where downtown and the shopping areas along Highway 97 have everything you would expect in a city of about 44,500 people (2021 census). Wineries and farm markets are spread across the North Okanagan, and Kelowna's bigger dining scene is about an hour south.

Schools

Silverton is in School District 22 (Vernon).

• Okanagan Landing Elementary, 7322 Grant Road: kindergarten to Grade 7, about 280 students in 2025/26, with a Seamless Day kindergarten program and after-school care. About 1.2 km from Silverton. SD22 catchment changes for 2026–27 moved more students into this school's zone from Ellison Elementary.
• Clarence Fulton Secondary, 2301 Fulton Road: Grades 8 to 12, about 4.2 km and 6 minutes away. Confirm the secondary catchment for 7701 with the district. To be confirmed

Healthcare

Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101 32 Street, is the regional hospital for the North Okanagan and about 7.5 km (10 minutes) from Silverton. Kelowna General Hospital is about an hour south. Finding a family doctor in BC can take time; register with the provincial Health Connect Registry as soon as you move.

A year at the Landing

• Spring: the docks go back in use, the lake is cold but the patios are warm by May.
• Summer: long, hot days, evenings on the strata beach, and the busiest weekends of the year at Paddlewheel Park. Dry summers bring water restrictions; the regional district kept Stage 3 in place through September 2026.
• Fall: quieter lake, warm afternoons, and haul-out season for boats. Wildfire smoke can linger in late summer in some years.
• Winter: a few snowfalls a season at lake level, and SilverStar Mountain Resort about 45 minutes away for skiing.

Water, wildfire and being prepared

Two things every Okanagan homeowner now plans around. First, water: in dry summers the Regional District of North Okanagan restricts outdoor watering, and Stage 3 restrictions were still in place in September 2026. Strata landscaping budgets feel it too. Second, wildfire: the August 2026 fires caused evacuations across the Interior, and Okanagan Landing residents have raised evacuation and interface concerns at council hearings on new development. Sign up for local emergency alerts, keep a grab-and-go bag, and ask the strata whether it has an emergency plan and contact list.
